I didn’t move to Beverley till 1982 but I remember the Bridlington Pick Up well. It served Beverley, Driffield and Bridlington at that time, the other yards on the Hull Scarborough line having closed and been lifted. The train was scheduled on traditional lines – the wagonload coal network, so it connected out of an early morning arrival in Hull to distribute coal so ran in the mornings, going north from Beverley by 8 am. Of course, it means the end of the distinctive Hull Trains livery as First Group tightens its grip on its subsidiary! All will be blue all over once the 222s have gone.
Whilst regretting this immensely, one has to accept that without the support of a "Big Player", HT would have gone under ages ago – through no fault of its own (q.v. Grand Central!).
