Taken with my Brownie 127 over fifty years ago.

62720 Cambridgeshire is passing the old Western General Hospital and approaching Argyle Street with an express for either Bridlington, Scarborough or York.

I had only just started taking photographs and didn’t think to take any notes, but it will be c1956/7

Someone on one of the posts said they were a trainee at West Parade.

This is a view of the cabin on 29th September 1979.

I have never found out why it was called West Parade, when it was situated at Argyle Street.

If they had waited until Sunday, it would have been 40 years since the end of steam.

I saw an A1 going past Ideal Standard for scrapping at Drapers. What a pity he didn’t save that one.

Birmingham Snow Hill

When I worked at Harwell, after visiting home, I would sometimes return via Birmingham. This involved changing stations from New Street to Snow Hill.

This is a shot I once took at Snow Hill, of a GWR pannier tank, 4648, on a transfer freight turn. 7th June 1960.

I never printed it, because I thought their were some ‘holes’ in the negative. It was only when I scanned the negative, and enlarged it, that I discovered the ‘holes’ were pigeons…
