I’m taking my leave of this forum. I don’t know what HDM had in mind when they built this site, but I bet it wasn’t this.
Perhaps some of the posters should have their own blogs or websites. It’s easy to do and free. But on this forum, they are confirming all the predjudices of the rest of the country about Hull. Anyone who wants serious discussion, by the way, will find lots of country-wide forums out there.
Maybe I’ll check back in 3…

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has published a report showing what people consider to be an acceptable standard of living. See: http://www.jrf.org.uk/pressroom/releases/010708.asp

In the BBC website’s coverage of the david Davis resignation (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7451879.stm) there’s an interesting sidelight on what the rest of the country considers to be Hull’s boundaries. Willerby, according to this, is in Hull, and is part of "the more affluent area of Hull". Well, we all know that it is really, but try telling that to the boundary commissioners!

This building, now converted into flats by a housing association, was for many years a sailors’ home. Many people will remember it as the Flying Angel Club. I have not been able to find out what it was like inside before its conversion. Does anyone have any memories of it in the 1950s, 1960s or earlier?
