No it was an earthquake that messed it up, but easily confused with the yanks usual aftermath

  2. tigerlilly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

I`m talking about the aftermath Olly.

  3. Olly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

I think the yanks have taken control and maybe it will be crazy for a while, a long while. But it is a large country with virtually no infrastructure and millions of people in need of everything, the US military are without doubt the largest body with the most power at its control on the planet, they can move insurmountable volumes of aid and distribute it faster than any other group. I do take your point though, they arnt the people you would want to rescue you if you had a choice, but they can help more than anyone else and that’s what they need right now.

  4. MikeCovell Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

They were quicker to respond to the Haiti tragedy than they were to Hurricane Katrina.

  5. tigerlilly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

At the moment the american forces are being used for control. They have taken over control of the airport and are turning away aid. A lot of the aid agencies are complaining about this and people are not getting the water and shelter they need. I know Haiti is an unstable country with massive problems apart from the earth quake but surely, by now, after the tsunami and Katrina it`s obvious that we need one body to move in and organise everything instead of the chaos that ensues at every disaster.

  6. alanmackinnon Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

One of the things that scares me most about the Yanks taking control is that Obama has appointed George W Bush as a Special envoy to Haiti and we all know what sort of mess he created last time he was in charge of something. Not only that but I wonder how long it will take the Hatians to get the Yanks out when they have finished. All we have to hope is that America doesn’t disagree with the Haitians form of democracy.

  7. MikeCovell Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Rarely is the questioned asked: Is our children learning….about the problems in Haiti?

  8. Olly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

The yanks were turning away aid because there was nowere for the planes to go after landing and they needed to get some heavy lift equipment in first so they could unload the aid planes that followed. America will only stay if Haiti has some form of natural resource i.e. oil or gold, as it is it doesnt so all the yanks will leave is the bill for the rescue mission.

There’s plenty of money to be made from a disaster. Has Halliburton moved in yet?

Don’t think they have any natural wealth of any kind, so unfortunately they will end up in dept for years to come.

From Reports a very poor place to begin with? Just feel sorry for them. Also feel that they do not have the infrastructure to allow aid to arrive to help them? Just hope things turn around for them which will allow us to give them the full aid that they deserve. Alf.

  13. tigerlilly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

On the news this morning (BBC) they interviewed a british bank worker who had just got back from Haiti. He said that most of the roads were open and he had no trouble travelling to the airport. So it`s just down to lack of organisation. I just get so upset to see babies and children suffering needlessly.

  14. Alf-G Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Agree poor organisation that is why hundreds if not thousands of bodies still lay in the roads blocking most aid workers reported on the BBC News also. I and many others also feel distressed at seeing people and young people suffering. Graphic picture in the tabloid the other day young child around 5 years old already deceased was being thrown from a building by someone the picture was so horrible really was. Alf.

  15. AR-TONY Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Terrible indeed Alf, but only the most single minded effort will preserve the living. The rapid removal of the dead and a ready supply of potable water is far more important now. We can survive a very long time without food shelter and clothing, but the dead and the lack of clean healthy water is the main key now to their deliverance from this hell on earth.

  16. Alf-G Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Yes agree on those points removal of the bodies is paramount and water (fresh) is paramount also. Medical aid needs to be ready made available also to the injured to prevent further losses of life. Alf.

  17. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

I don’t mean oil or mineral wealth Tiger, I’m talking about disaster capitalism.

Sorry Chromosome, it was the mention of Halliburton. No your right. Corrupt government officials will be first in line no doubt.

  19. AR-TONY Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

  20. theagitator Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Dick Cheny, the ex Vice President, was the Halliburton man. George W was just a front man for the oil companies, who are the real Masters of the Universe.

Agitator, you are ever cynical and, as ever right!

  22. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Half agree, but the ultimate masters are the central bankers.

  23. alanmackinnon Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

I do not think there are enough dollars flying around to interest Haliburton.

  24. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Why? The US government pays the bill, with a guaranteed profit built in, by the way, and the American elite gets even richer. It’s a phenomenon known as ‘disaster capitalism’ Alan. American deregulation and privatisation have passed a huge swathe of government functions out to the private sector…disaster relief being just one of them.

  25. Olly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Totally agree with the above comments about the global elite making money off the tragedy, as they have done every time before.

But just going back to the situation in Haiti, why is it left for aid workers to organise the removal of bodies, cant the survivors do that, or are they waiting for the world to do everything. I was watching the news at 4am (couldn’t sleep) and as the food was being handed out not one person said thank you to the military guy, it costs nothing to say but means so much. I just think they could do more than sit around waiting for aid.

  26. AR-TONY Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Olly, thats a tad unfair, I have seen n heard children politely saying thank you to American Soldiers n volunteers. When the ground beneath your feet collapses and your world tumbles about your ears I dare say it takes quite special folk to just swing into gear. They were never the most organised of folks at the best of times. Heaven only knows how we would perform in such dreadful circumstances. It makes our complaint about pot holes in our roads pale somewhat in its significance.

  27. Olly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Maybe so, but even the most uneducated of people know the risks of leaving dead bodies around. The next avoidable thing to happen out there will be disease and they really don’t want that. But to just walk past them with your hand over your nose is just stupid, but like i said they are leaving it to the aid workers to organise them. A little like Zimbabwe when the whites were kicked out, they went from being a net exporter to having nothing.

  28. tigerlilly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

I think you are being very unfair Olly. These people are traumatised. They`ve seen things that no one should have to see and a lot of them are digging amongst the rubble with bare hands to find loved ones. Yes,the bodies need removing but where to? They need refridgerated lorries to store them in so DNA can be carried out and to do that needs organisation. Don`t forget the news reporters only show what they want you to see and at the moment they seem hell bent on only showing the seedier side i.e. looting. I think if I`d just gone through what they have and not had so much as a drink of water for nearly a week, the last thing I would say is thank you to a soldier who can carry a gun but no water.

  29. Olly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Why on earth do they need to store them for DNA, its not really needed, they died from a quake not murder and im firly sure they know how to bury bodies, not rocket science is it. The news only showing the seedy side i.e. looting, i would say thats common sence to find whatever you can from smashed buildings, if its going to help you survive. The soldier was handing out food at a table, not walking around with a gun, they were just grabbing it and off they went, dont know about you but a little thank you costs nothing especially when you world has turned upside down, you need help and people are doing that. Maybe its just me, but im damd sure i would say thank you, every time someone gave me anything.

  30. MikeCovell Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Saw some of the initial air drops of aid earlier. If it’s confusing the press, with reports of no ir drops, then air drops, what must it be like for the poor people on the ground!

  31. tigerlilly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Olly, DNA is needed for identification. Some, if not all, the bodies will be unidentifiable. This is what happened with the tsunami. I too saw the children being given water on the 10 o clock news last night and they all said thank you. I still stand by what I said earlier, that it needs one body to organise things. There are dozens of different aid agencies and rescue workers who are not being allowed to do their job by the american armed forces.

  32. MikeCovell Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Maybe the DNA is being used to make Super Soldiers Olly.

  33. Olly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Well ye i suppose your right they should keep the bodies for I.D. , lets not worry about disease and as for organising yourself into useful groups to get things done, well thats just daft when you can sit around and let someone else do it for ya.

Not sure what you been on Mike but id lay off it a while

  34. tigerlilly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

I just hope that you are never in that position Olly because non of us can know what it`s like to be so traumatised. Not only are they suffering extreme shock, the majority of them are greiving aswell but hey never mind it`s not effecting us so it really doesn`t matter does it?

  35. Olly Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

If i was ever in such a situation i am sure i would not sit around waiting for others to help, but if they did come i would be grateful for any assistance. I also never said it didn’t matter cos it isn’t us in that situation. All i said is they could do more to help themselves, bury the dead, leave to the country side where farms will have food, the most important thing they need is water, this is what the aid workers will be dealing with. Every extra job the aid workers need to do or organise reduces what they can do to supply food and water, thats why the survivors must do as much as they can.

I have heard that they have started moving out of the cities, but is that because the aid workers told them to.

You must live as if nobody will help, if they do then great, but don’t ever expect it or rely on it.

  36. AR-TONY Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Olly, I understand some of your sentiments. However, it is worth stating every state has a criminal and exploitative element. Haiti already was a poor, over populated basket case, before this horrible disaster struck them down further.

As to the countryside, there is only so much food available at source at any one given time. Dead animals are just carrion and highly unsafe to eat. Those surviving farmers are not going to feel some wonderful altruistic glow of humanity when all and sundry fall hungrily upon their remaining livestock. A Quake will rupture both man made and natural wells. Water will disappear from one location and possibly erupt elsewhere. Water whether free running or not, might be highly contaminated.

Dragging the dead remains of folk to the outskirts of a communal area is a very good idea and burying them is very logical, but when denied fresh water for many hours, never mind days, the human brain does not function much above the basic animal instinct for survival.

I think that never being in such an invidious and terrifying situation ourselves, we should consider ourselves to be very lucky and, for now, resist all critical thoughts.

  37. alanmackinnon Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Reading over some of the posts on this thread, it seems that many of you are of the opinion that a corpse is dangerous to health. Well, it may interest you to know that the only time a dead body is dangerous to the health of the living is if that body is actually infected with some disease which can be caught. There was an eminent professor on BBC news programme the other day who highlighted this erroneous view. And when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. If a corpse is, per se, dangerous to health then how come ambulance staff, nurses, mortuary assistants and undertakers, to name but a few, don’t come down with some dreadful disease. The biggest danger of disease in the sort of disaster which Haiti has experienced is drinking bad water. Obviously, the dead should be buried as soon as is practical but they are not inherently dangerous to health.

  38. AR-TONY Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Alan, true enough, but any decaying matter will attract flies which will also then have great potential for cross infecting all sorts of foods and also the untreated wounds of the living injured. Also one serious matter to contend with is not only when, but where you place the dead to ground, for when underground streams and man made water courses are badly awry, you have to be certain that you do not contaminate fresh water. It is a very great nightmare.

  39. MikeCovell Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

It was a great moment to see the lady removed from beneath the church this morning on the news. 10 days after the quake, and after a sip of water she was smiling and singing!

  40. AR-TONY Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

I am not qualified to elaborate, but simply put… the denial of water for any living system for any length of time is highly destructive. If, and I hope it is true, these folks have come through such lengthy denial without serious loss of function then we are indeed observing miracles.

All we can hope is because it is so close to America that they can get some aircraft carriers there and we should see a dramatic increase in aid being brought in.

Do you think the Americans made the earthquake?

They do have the technology. A machine called the Terrashudder.

  49. MikeCovell Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Didn’t the Mythbusters team try Tesla’s earthquake machine and discover it was nothing more than a myth!

From an episode list of the show…

The MythBusters built several variations of Tesla’s "earthquake machine" using modified jackhammers, as well as a specially designed computer-controlled electromagnetic linear actuator provided by Grant. Small scale tests on metal bars were mixed, with the modified tools performing poorly while the more finely-tunable actuator produced significant vibrations in the bar. A scale test with a model of Tesla’s lab and miniature motor failed to produce any noticeable result. Finally, a large scale test using an actual bridge was attempted. The MythBusters attached the resonator to the side of a large truss bridge, which are today designed to withstand such vibrations, to see whether the entire bridge would be shaken. While the resonator did match the bridge’s frequency and produce a vibration noticeable 100 feet (30 m) away, it was not strong enough to be considered an earthquake. The MythBusters declared the myth busted.

I couldn’t find a project listing with the name "Terrashudder." Was it a civilian or defence project?

Kal-el no one is suggesting that but the americans have gone in, guns blazing as usual and chaos is happening. What I suggested was one disaster body who could organise all the charities and aid so that it went to the right places at the right time. I also think that if you get in quick enough with the aid you get the people on side. Leaving them to suffer while you dilly dally about only alienates you. It`s psychological, once you`ve shown them you`re there to help you organise the more able bodied victims into helping with the relief effort.

Olly do you actually watch the news reports? I`m getting the impression now that the reporters are hinting that they know the americans can do more but don`t want to upset anyone. On the news this morning they interviewed a doctor from medicine sans frontiers and he was almost begging for equipment to be let in. One plane full of medical aid had been turned away 3 times to allow more troops in. After the mess they made after Katrina, they shouldn`t be allowed to organise a tea party.

I must admit i dont get to see much TV at all as i am in Holland so only get BBC1 and 2 after i finish work. Most of the news i get is from the net and you dont get the visual impact from reading the reports, but it does make you think latrelly as opposed to emotionally, maybe this is why i sound like i dont care. Makes you wonder why they need so many troops instead of aid on Haiti doesnt it, how i see it the more people the higher the cost and one day Haiti will be left with a bill for all this.

Here is one for Olly,Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez has once again accused the United States of playing God. But this time it’s Haiti’s disastrous earthquake that he thinks the U.S. was behind. Spanish newspaper ABC quotes Chavez as saying that the U.S. navy launched a weapon capable of inducing a powerful earthquake off the shore of Haiti. He adds that this time it was only a drill and the final target is … destroying and taking over Iran. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9QtZkT8OBQ

  106. Olly Submitted about 1 month ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Mike it is all over the net from many different angles and like i said before it would be much easier to take control of a country, rescue them and give aid and loan them money to rebuild instead of fighting them. The technology doesnt create an earthquake, it triggers an existing one. If you think of what an earthquake is, 2 tectonic plates that want to move, but cant because of friction, this builds up massive potential energy, all you need to do is trigger it. What the technology does is similar to a microwave in your kitchen, it sends energy into the ground at a specific frequency that makes the rock vibrate, this is all that it needs to trigger the already existing fault.

  107. AR-TONY Submitted about 1 month ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Olly, To allow some expansion here, let us agree for the time being that such a ground breaking technology exists and where stated. See what I did there? Ha!

Now risking Chromosome23 again jumping down my throat, faster than the proverbial rat up the drain pipe, for yes, again, I cannot accurately recall the source for it was stated a long time ago… Tesla was ordered by the Canadian authorities to cease and desist all experiments in their region, for he was frightening everyone to death.

On Tesla’s death all his documents and paraphernalia were held for decades. Though a great deal was released after some serious legal tussles, no one knows how much the US kept.

Right, the existence of such technology would explain the need for such a close surveillance system as HAARP and indeed where it is at the top of the world.

North America’s settled populations are squatting down on one of the most unstable regions of the world. So unstable in fact that its Native Population abjured all recent thoughts of rebuilding permanent dwellings and elected to keep on the move.

If such a method, as others have already described, exists that can indeed trigger controlled slippage within highly tensed tectonic plates, allowing them to rub along a tad to relieve that tension, then the US would be mad to ignore such a gift.

Granting the above, then the US would try it out wherever they felt they may get away with it and indeed in so doing stick to a rigidly agreed depth over the period of each set of experiments.

But you must always test these things first to be sure it works.

I was watching BBC news at 6 last night and saw a supermarket that had been damaged in the quake, they were putting everything back or getting ready to move it to another safer place to continue buisiness. This place was full of food enough to feed thousands, so why is it still full. After 12 days a lot of the perishables like frozen or refigerated foods will be no good anymore, so why wernt these atleast given out to the people when it was still usable in the first days of the quake.

  109. AR-TONY Submitted about 1 month ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Ok there a bit wierd, they belive we are "immortal spiritual beings" sounds farmiliar. At the end of the day Tigerlilly if you look hard at any religion it has basic rules, 1/ convince everyone there is a higher power usually an all knowing entity, 2/ that through praying and giving money you will become closer to it, 3/ spread the word and encourage more to join, 4/ have a text that was written by it. If you look at christians, jews, chatholics or any other they have killed millions in the name of there gods, they have become increadably rich through blackmail, extortion, rents of land and any other way possible. They pray over bones, at the feet of a man nailed to a cross and alsorts of other stuff. Some turn a blind eye to child abuse, others remove part of the female genitals and others remove part of the male genitals. And you call Scientologists wierd.

  134. AR-TONY Submitted about 1 month ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Olly, look again. I would not disagree with your stance re all the various brands of religious dogma. Remember though, that the word religious means to habitually do some thing in a consistent and unvarying way. The only thing Jesus, bless Him, said should be done in a religious way, in the true context of that word, is… well you know as much as I do about what He said and meant and you do not need me to harp on about it. BUT! He never asked, begged or demanded that we should go around frightening, intimidating, brainwashing, hurting and conquering one another. That is the true nature of His great difference to any who came after and all who went before. If He gave us all one major problem it was His setting the bar so very high and so many of us being so very pathetic that we are so easily drawn to others who play to all our many weaknesses.

So long as they dont hurt anyone whats the problem, if only the same could be said of other religion’s.

There are other pressing matters afoot. There are many hundreds of child trafficking and child prostitution racketeers in Haiti and there are fears, growing ever more, by the day that all those poor orphaned bairns will be now falling easy prey to these evil exploitative scum. Right this minute an evil, as great and as likely worse than the vile slavery that our own masters had their greedy, grubby grasping hands in, stalks again that benighted isle. You can pray for an all redeeming spirit to turn the hands of evil away from those bairns or, maybe like this failing Christian, join in the most awful curse upon their filthy heads and worry about our souls later.

  139. tigerlilly Submitted about 1 month ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

  142. AR-TONY Submitted about 1 month ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

If you will allow me an aside… The whole bizarre notion of celibacy, which continues to invariably lead men into all manner of sexual aberration and the continual debauchery of bairns, has nothing whatsoever to do with Christianity at all. The powers within the Roman Hierarchy discovered yonks ago that their many priests or what-have-you, you know Monks, Friars and their like, were settling their bounty, gained throughout their ministry, upon their sons. This meant very quickly and over very few generations there was developing a clique of locally powerful lay churchmen who through inheritance could stand independent of "Mother" church. So… "Mother" church banned marriage to regain control… and that was that. Now as a High Anglican, who is supposed to decry against all protestations by those who would give allowance to Homosexual and or Female Clerics, I can see the maneuvers of that same "Mother". She now welcomes our return, offering all Anglican Clerics free reign n succor within their marriages. So… there are many others within this vast unmarried Roman host who see, via future natural protest n process, their chance to regain their ancient rights to take a wife. Now that would be interesting and also very healthy for all concerned. I can see the great schism that divided us melting away to the sound of the wedding march written by a Jew who converted to Christianity. Gasp! End of tiresome rant… Sorry! Maybe then all Christian children will be free.

Circumcision soon after birth, but within some Sub Saharan African nations at the onset of manhood, is a right of passage decreed by God as a token blood sacrifice, demanded of Abraham following the abortive sacrifice of his son to God and to be henceforth done throughout time. Islam took sections of the Torah including this directive, because of their assumption of Abraham as the head of their tribes also. The circumcision of girls occurs with the onset of puberty and is because of all manner of bizarre ideas, such as if it is not done they will be wrapped from head to foot in their own extended… well enough you can maybe guess the rest, but I would not unless you want nightmares.
