For all you Dr Who fans – what do you think of the new, youngest ever Dr Who, Matt Smith?
Do you think he’ll be any good?

I love Doctor Who i liked it when it was Chris Eccleston and when he changed to David Tennent i thought oh no i will not be watchng that again. I think David was better than Chris. This new one i have never even heard of but will just have to give him a chance and we have a year yet to ghet used to the idea anyway.

He looks a right ugly person.

Well said Mimi. ‘Dr Who’ has never been about looks and it’s almost irrelevant who plays the Doctor. It’s all in the writing and acting. As you say, we’ll have to suspend judgment until we’ve actually seen him in action.

Oh my typing is terrible should proof read first.
I have just been watching abit of Matt Smith on you tube and he is a good actor. Before doctor who i cannot think of anything i watched David Tennent in. They have picked well on the last 2 doctors.

David Tennant appeared in the series Taking Over The Asylum back in ‘94. It was an excellent series and well worth hoping they reshow it :)

I watched the programme about Matt on Saturday night. He seems quite a good actor.
I notice if you miss programmes, you can catch them on the BBC iPlayer. I’m afraid I get lost round that. It seems a bit hit and miss. Does anyone else know how iPlayer works? Is it the last weeks worth of television and radio you can view or listen to, or only selected programmes?

I think it has all BBC programmes on it and they are on there for a 7 days. I am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong.

BBC also posts it’s programmes and trailers for shows on Youtube, a day after the initial air date. The Dr Who program from saturday is highly watched!!
I have used the BBCi player only once and that was when I missed an episode of "Casualty 1911" which is set in the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, London.

First looks I thought "on no another trendy", but I suppose we’ll have to wait and see. I think Doctor Who has got far too "touchy-feely" since it was relaunched with Christopher Ecclestone. What really matters are the producers and script writers, we need a physics graduate as a script writer, there is not enough science in science fiction these days, it has been hijacked by the arty-farty set (as everything always is), far too much sexual overtones.
If Doctor Who returned to the basics of Time Travel adventures, and this bMatt Smith played the part well then fair do’s, but with that haircut I fear we are once again dumbing down the science for a trendy "look and feel".
The classic Doctor Who period for me were the first five doctors.

Practially all the previous doctors have had long messy hair. What is the difference here apart from his age?
-
ArthurLager Submitted 5 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
surely regarding the hair issue, the previous doctors are all the same time lord, only in a different manifestation?. but i concur with ArtH that there is too much "humanoid interest" and too little sonic screwdriver-type gizmology. still, bring back rose!

Isn’t there a more serious underlying issue, the Doctor can only have so many regenerations? If actors like Eclleston swiftly move on forcing a plot situation aren’t the writers soon going to have to deal with the FINAL Doctor or make a very good case for further regenerations?
-
ArthurLager Submitted 5 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
couldn’t the final regeneration simply go back in time?
-
Eloise Submitted 5 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
I think they’d have to come up with a really good way to explain it though. As we’ve seen previously it’s not as simple as going back in time, there’s a problem of future/past selves, upsetting time lines and accidentally changing the future when visiting the past.

And we wouldn’t want them to lose the illusion of realism…
-
Eloise Submitted 5 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
Where’s the fun and science in that…!
-
ArthurLager Submitted 5 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
but does "time" actually exist?. if dr who can travel backwards & forwards everything that has and is going to happen must have done so. is everything just an unfolding from the big bang and therefore predictable & inevitable?: or what?.

If time were reversed, how would you know? You could hardly meet yourself coming back. :-)
-
ArthurLager Submitted 5 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
but the "you" from before isn’t the "you" now, though, is it?
-
Robbo Submitted 5 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
So you’d meet yourself twice?
-
ArthurLager Submitted 5 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
why not? the where is/are the robbo[es] from this morning? and come to that, where is this morning?

The beauty of scifi is that you can pretty much do what you want. Rules can be bent, broken and turned inside out by imaginative writers.
-
ArthurLager Submitted 5 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
do you mean to say that dr. who is not real?
-
Colombo Submitted 5 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
Well, fancy that! :-0
-
mimi Submitted 5 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
