Isn’t it time we got tough with these sick individuals who prey on societies weakest?
The government thinks it is fine to give them lenient sentences like the one of 10 years given to Alec Alexander. He will be probably out in 5.
I think the best solution is to de-nut them like they do with dogs when they cause trouble. This would wipe out their sick sexual desires.

I read that one and more recently "Yorkshire Hangmen" which was a good read. Even with todays scientific breakthrough’s in crime detection, it is still difficult to secure a 100% conviction without reasonable doubt.

Tyranny is a state where the actions of the good become indistinguishable from the actions of the bad. I always think of Stephan Kishko when the death penalty question rears its ugly head, and the man charged with Jill Dando’s murder would have most likely been murdered by the state by now.
In America they are murdering foreign nationals in contravention of the Vienna Convention. No matter how much America tries to burn, gas, or inject those criminals from their violent heritage, crime still persists.

Possibly difficult to secure 100% conviction but could start with all those lounging in prisons who have pleaded guilty previously. Send any non-UK nationals in prisons back from whence they came and hey presto you have more room for our dregs of society to be behind bars. Finally no TV’s, DVD’s, pool tables, buying cigs etc. 4 walls and an exercise yard is sufficient.

If they can’t do the time they might think twice about committing the crime. Severe punishments might cut crime rates. Thinking back to the 100% conviction risk how about 3 strikes and you’re out (or at least inside) that way if they’d been in trouble for any crimes more than twice with paltry sentences they’d know waht was coming. I don’t think it’s that easy in prison mimi, seeing as most paedophiles have to be sectioned. You could remove that right and then they would have to mix freely with the other inmates. They probably wouldn’t last too long if that happened.

Hi Barrow, It was Ethel Lillie Major, she poisoned her husband and a dog and was the last woman to be hung at Hull Prison. She was hung on December 19th 1934 at the age of 43.
In the 1980’s reports hit the Hull Press that her spirit still walks towards the location of the condemed cell!
Wonder who people were more bothered about? The poisoned Hubby? The Hung Murderer? Or the "Ikkle" doggy?

Here’s one you might like to get interested in Mike. A friend of mine was living in one of those mock georgian houses on Westbourne Avenue -near Princes Ave end. When he moved in his landlord told him the place may be haunted because his grand/father had died in mysterious circumstances; I thought it a strange tale to tell new tenants. When the landlord renovated the place he discovered a bottle of poison hidden in a secret panel, and is convinced a former servant poisoned his relative. He wasn’t sure how to set about investigating the matter.

The death penalty as a deterrent has never worked. If it had, the hangmen would have had a quiet life.
Although it is argued that the death penalty as a punishment brings us down to their level of the murderer, in certain circumstances, I think the death penalty should be available, I doubt I could be the one to pull the carry out the punishment.

Any willingness to give the benefit of the doubt is very commendable and though I do not myself believe in the death penalty and only see it as ritualized murder, I would be horrified to discover that one of these cruel and misguided types was living near me. So would you say to me `Well move away then?’ I do not think there is much prospect for change on the part of these aberrations, so would you say well lock your children away and deny them their freedom? These people actually believe that children are willing participants so do you say let all these elements mix on an ad-hock basis and hope for the best? Even while in prison these types swop their case histories and court papers listing in graphic detail their activities with our children, so would you say they have a right to free congress among others of the same persuasion? What would you do? They are guiltless of all wrong in their own minds. They may feel some misery through their recognition of the revulsion they see from others. They may feel great remorse through their casting aside of them by family and friends, but they do not feel the revulsion for their activities that we feel. That is outside their terms of reference. If we accept them for what they are then we are lost. They cannot be cured, but can be restrained.

It’s a highly emotive subject Tony, and one sadly one where there are no fixed solutions. I don’t think anyone would be comfortable with someone like that living near to them, I know I wouldn’t. However like you I don’t believe in the death penalty either as I just see it as eye for an eye… and yeah ritualised, state ordered murder.
I’m curious to know if there are any paedophiles out there who realise what they are, and choose to not molest, groom etc.. because they realise they live in a society where they would be jailed for that?
Assuming of course that being a paedophile is having a predisposition to children, in the same way that gay men have a predisposition to men.

I am surprised and uncomfortable finding references to `gay men’ here. A genuine homosexual would be pained and horrified by any comparison within this subject. If a molester of children was a homosexual then I suppose he would be just as much an aberration to their type as they would be to the heterosexual. Our humanity is a strange and bizarre mix, but a child molester is a creature way beyond all regular points of reference.

Lazarus as usual nails the problem with the above, but the simple truth is we are faced here with something scary that Bazza and I have failed to resolve. We are both trying to rationalize over something outside of our own comprehension, cruelty to children. Do we maybe lack cruelty in our response. What the blue blazes are we supposed to do. Can you hear my brain whirring, can you feel my anger, can you taste the blood in my throat, can you not feel that thud in my chest. I am a father. Thank God a lucky one. The damnedest thing is, if I came face to face with a less lucky parent, I think I would drop my old head in shame, because I just do not have an answer.

And I’m fully aware that a child, in this case, will have suffered. However, inflicting pain on someone else, won’t ease the pain of that child. Only bring the state down to the level of the criminal.

For me, and thankfully, for society, Justice is about removal of certain rights, freedoms and liberties. Not a removal of life or limbs.

The trouble with our society is.. we’ve lost the true value in liberty, freedom and rights. We associate these things with having the right to Sky TV, we associate liberty with a comfy chair. We’ve lost the true meanings, sadly, We don’t value our right to vote, our right to travel and live and make love, we don’t value our right to have children and look after them, we don’t value our surroundings, which is why, when I read in the papers at silly people who complain when a prisoner is seen to be getting Sky TV I get so frustrated, because SO WHAT? He can’t leave his cell! he can’t run in a field, he can’t get on a plane and fly away, he can’t get a job or a house, or have children, or earn money, drive a nice car, or any car, he can’t vote and have an impact on his area or his country. if he wants SKY TV.. let him! who cares!? its superficial. We, On the outside have lost our way, lost our faith and lost our understanding. and that is the true sadness in all of this. That’s why people are crying for castration! because they see the superficiality of punishment as a reward, they overlook the removal of freedom, rights and liberty.

a fox doesn’t obey the rules of the farmer, a pack of foxes won’t learn that they will be killed by going into the farmyard. a fox is ruled by survival, it needs to eat. Are you saying that a person with this predisposition NEEDS to do this, and cannot be stopped unless they are removed!?

There is a line. If a rapist/peedo crosses that line and acts out fantacies that are in their head with force then they should thrown in jail for a very long time.

i agree, that once a crime has been committed that person should face a very harsh penalty indeed. this is the same for every crime, but i don’t agree it should be a castration.

Castration is a good thing. Look at some of the arab countries were they chop off people arms for stealing. You can leave a wallet in a watering hole for a day and no one will touch it.
Fear of loosing their hand does that.

There is no real evidence that castration will work, infact the evidence that there is.. shows that it’s won’t necessarily impact. I think you have to consider that rapists don’t just use their sexual organs.
