Here’s the questions for bird-brain quiz no.4. No winner for quiz no.3 . The answers can be of birds from around the world, but they’re all fairly well-known ones. It’s just for fun, I hope you enjoy it! Here goes –

Q1 – You’ll have to be an early riser to be up with this family of birds, and no messing about!

Q2 – Great birds on a windy day! A mark of quality.

Q3 – Huge seabird. Often associated with bad luck, it certainly wasn’t for the group Fleetwood Mac. Their single of the same name got to no.1 in 1969!

Q4 – These little yellow songsters might be found playing football in Norwich City!

Q5 – Sometimes mistaken for Swallows, you’ll have to be quick to get this one!

Q6 – Name of a pub and a chippy in Hull. A Royal Angler!

Q7 – This dove is the ancestor of all our feral pigeons. Clue – Get a stick at the seaside!

Q8 – Little wader. Don’t get tied in one answering this quiz!

Q9 – These huge Owls are no comics. They have been reported breeding in the UK, in fact you might say that they’ve ‘landed’! See photo above.

Q10 – Some of these birds were awarded the animals equivalent of the VC ( ‘Dickens Medal’) in World War II . Clue – Get the message?

I’ve got 7 of the answers off the top of my head Bob, but 2, 8 and 9 are giving me problems.

Well done, again, C23! You’re our leading bird-brain to-date with two quiz wins under your wing. I’m thinking of a change to the format so that any early winning reply doesn’t put people off having a go. Any ideas, anyone?

Cheers Bob. I’m doing my happy dance right now! I did need to consult a book for number 8 though, I’ve never heard of the knot.

Why don’t you do a ‘hangman’ style quiz where people have to guess one letter at a time? After so many of the letters have been filled in, everyone has a good chance of being able to guess the final answer.

    For example,

Clue…The bird on a chess board.

First person guesses ‘K’ and you then post

    _ _ _ K

And on you go until someone shouts ‘ROOK’!

I did this on a railway forum and it was fun. Just a suggestion.

I’m sure I’ll get a few unrepeatable suggestions for that one, C23! Reminds of the joke:- What four-letter word ends in ‘IT’ and you find at the bottom of a budgie’s cage? Grit, of course! I should’ve saved that for the next quiz!

Might try your ‘hangman’ idea, C23. The Knot,by the way, is very common – they gather in their thousands. Causes some confusion – is it a knot? No, it’s not. That’s what I said didn’t I.. ?oh,dear

Bob: that reminds of a joke in a pre-war Meccano Magazine:

Man goes into shop: "Two 4 watt bulbs, please"

    Assistant: "Two what?"

    Man:"No, 4 watt"

    Assistant: "Four what?"

    Man: "That’s right"
