I like to know the results, but at the end of the day, it is the countries that throw the most money at their atheletes that win.

    The US, China.

We do rubbish because our lot train in parks.

The whole thing is a load of hypocrisy. All the competitors take an oath, part which says to the effect that it is better to take part than to win.

    Then what do they do?

Each winner gets a gold medal, each second place is given a silver medal and third gets bronze. The others hardly receive a thank you for turning up.

If they kept to the spirit of the oath, every participant would get a gold medal and no performances would be measured.

I have a feeling something like a terrorist attack will happen. Or some sort of protest.

Would we be able to see anything for the smog, anyway?? I’m away on hols so I’ll be spared the agony.

    Sometimes.

My only interest is in how many indolent upper-class students get arrested for protesting over there, and how many actually come back. I believe 4 were arrested last night after some Chinese residents phoned the police.

I love the Games, they send me to sleep everytime.

Not interested. I’d rather count the amount of worms that appear in my garden after it rains.

I saw the BBC advert for the games for the first time last night, it featured a monkey flying about on a cloud! Is this really what China is about?

The fat pig has no chance but the green goblin and monkey are looking promising!

  15. Chromosome23 Submitted 23 days ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Mike, the advert is based on an old Chinese legend. It was televised as ‘Monkey’ on BBC2 in the late 70’s/early 80’s.

I remember "Monkey" on TV. They released them all on DVD a few years back.

The Olympic games this year mean as much to me as they will in four years time , a big fat nothing. The London games will be kept preserved for the London celebrity circuit , freeloading politicians and nobody else, but we will all be paying for them for years. I bet in approx two years time there will be a mass panic when they realise that the venues arn’t going to be built in time and millions more will have to be thrown at them at our cost!!

The opening ceremony was brilliant but I can’t help thinking that it could have been spent on the poor people and the one who lost their homes in the earthquake.

  19. Colombo Submitted 20 days ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

The money wasn’t spent those who even lost their homes for the stadia to be built.

The Olympics, to set oneself out among the gods.

Giving all for one goal, such endeavour, sounds to me like we have some bitter lesser humans about these halls.

Idiots say the London Games will benifit us all,and that 12 billion pounds for two weeks sport is well spent. Many will make, and are making,a lot of money now,and we are paying in taxes. Anybody see on TV that the construction workers were basically slave labour and have not been paid. They were forced to live in squalid conditions and the whole games are a sham.Even those taking part in the opening cememony were mainly armed forces members who had no choice.

  22. TheBreaker Submitted 20 days ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

"We are all free to choose!"

The benefits china will reap from the Olympics will be colossal which is obvious.

Last updated eleven days ago, in the meantime Team GB has its biggest medal tally for years. Well done to all our medalists, I am sure you will all want to echo that. On second thoughts after reading the majority of these replies, most of you wont.

  24. theagitator Submitted 9 days ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

A lot of National Lottery money was used to help our TeamGB people get their medals. Makes a mockery of money for good works & charity. Most, if not all, of the medal winners will make large sums of money on the celebrity circuit on their return to the UK. Will the Lottery be reimbursed? At approximatly 0ne Million Pounds per medal it seems a tadge expensive. This view in no way detracts from their sterling efforts.
