Government Chubby Chasers

A new government initiative will result in families receiving letters outlining the government’s concern over chubby children. As the government moves science further into the classroom, is this just a healthy concern for the welfare and upbringing of children, or perhaps a too-pervasive policy that seeks, once again, to punish the victim rather than the real culprits.
Should the government begin a campaign of finger-pointing, or should their concerns be better directed in other areas?

Morning Lazarus. Did you have an early night?. I was in the middle of a post when I got chopped off. I"m tempted to ring the news desk and report a monumental local failure.
To get to this subject; Yes, it’s another example of the over-staffed government having nothing better to do. They could approach it more subletly and more effectively with less staff if it were introduced gradually into school subjects.

Encouraging school sports day, PE, rounders, netball, hockey, dance and domestic science back into the school curriculum. Back to basics, it is as simple as that.

But competitive sports aren’t allowed in schools now Fatpuss, well not the primary’s anyway.Maybe that’s why we don’t do very well at national and international levels. I agree with you more sports in schools, we had PE at least four times a week when I went to school and it was competitive,we went swimming twice weekly the kids now never get near a pool unless the parents take them. That’s the best all round excercise,I think all schools should have a pool built on site.

Which schools compete at the Costello stadium at the close of the school year? I was informed there was a troop of Londoners competing this year.

I agree with ChiefDragon on the swimming. Most of the families in a similar position to ours where both parents have to work just do not take the time to teach their kids to swim. Swimming is a fantastic form of all round excersize and ours kids absolutely love it. My better half has tought both of the kids to swim in a relatively short space of time and they sulk like crazy if they miss a days visit to the pool.
Not only being good excersize, The ability to swim is a potential life saver for the more adventurous kids who dissapear to explore around water.

Swimming is an excellent exercise. Take your children to a local swimming club. They will not only learn to swim, but be coached how to swim properly.
I took my daughters to Beverley Road baths – when there were still three pools – to enquire about lessons. City of Hull had a training session that evening to which they were invited to join in.
They both eventually swam for the club in the Yorkshires, and my youngest swam for the relay team in the Northern Counties.

Lazarus, I think the comps at Costello are for Secondary schools, but I’m not certain of that. I only know that at the primary schools I have knowledge of they don’t hold sports days as such, they are called family fun days and competitiveness is frowned upon.

Thanx CD. Does that mean there are no clever students in maths and English as well then? Isn’t homework competitive? Nanny in a state I imagine.

Children have to learn that there are winners and losers in any competition. They have to be taught to come to terms with it.
In 1958, at Riley High School, the Headmaster warned on speech day, of the dangers of wrapping failure in a parcel and labeling it success.

Football practice, netball practice taken after school hours is all homework, one can exercise the body aswell as the mind.

It seems fairly ridiculous CD if they support a sports team or sportsperson.

When I was a kid, I was allowed 3 or 4 jaffa cakes.
I go around to my relatives houses, and thier kids are eating a whole packet.
Its the fault of the parents.
And the fact that one hole is far bigger than the other hole.

I have just got to post this little snippet that I heard today. My better half was asking a colleagues child if he could play tennis. His reply was that he could play it very well on his Wiifit. She then asked his mum the same question regarding wether he could play tennis and her response was the same "Yes he plays it all the time on his Wiifit". She was being deadly serious in thinking that because he stands on some little pad in front of the telly waving his arms about, that this would be the same as performing the game on a court with a real tennis racket and ball. Warning: Wiifit is only suitable for children and adults with no brain.

Roberto, a bit hypocrotical when you SIT at your computer writing this stuff, the wii is a bit more physicle than you imply. The wii is a computer game and at least they are stood up to do it.

I agree with everything your saying Lazarus, we’ve had one hell of a job trying to teach my grandson the art of competition, if that’s the right term,he believes that when you play a game everyone gets a ‘prize’. We have tried so hard to tell him that in life not everyone’s a winner and sometimes you have to beat the backside off your opponent to gain your goal in life. He just doesn’t like to hurt anyone’s feelings, perhaps not having a father around has had its effect.

I remember at going to see my sister at a sports day when she was at primary school; many, many years ago. She was in the 100m race, and was far into the lead, and looked back to see her friend had fallen over. She then stopped and ran back to help her and so lost the race. Competition can sometimes reveal greater human character than sheer-blooming mindedness. I thought she won something more important that day, and her dramatic progress through the ranks in the army may be testament to that.
I too think it’s important to instruct children that life is not a simple ride, and learning about failure/defeat is an important human quality.

Maybe the goverment should bring out a fat tax. Fat people should pay more tax.

I believe American Airlines is doing just that Willow, and charging people over a certain weight anything up to triple the normal fare.

Lets be honest if you got on a plane and where sat in the middle seat of a row of three seats and a big fat person sat next to you overspilling their own seating area and squashing you would you be happy. Am I wrong for suggesting this. And if I am wrong then why?
-
fatpuss Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
Isn’t that discrimination or do you only support certain minorities Lazarus. I have noticed in other posts the mere mention of tax sends you into verbal ecstacy you pair of fat bashers.

fatpuss, are you just being obtuse to fit in, or are you always this misguided. If you can list the posts where the mere mention of tax sends me into a verbal ecstasy, I will respond accordingly.
-
Willow Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
No it’s not discrimination. If I have payed money to sit on a seat on a plane I don’t want the fat person sat next to me sat on my seat as well as his own.

Fatpuss quote:Roberto, a bit hypocrotical when you SIT at your computer writing this stuff, the wii is a bit more physicle than you imply.
Am I to be classed as lazy because I sit down to use the computer? Funnily enough even at 42 I can still run 10 miles without losing my breath and smoke at least 40 fags a day. How is it hypocritical?
-
Roberto Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
There again, Because I am 42 and still as fit as a 16 year old, I should go to prison because it may upset people in a lesser situation!! I must be discriminating against FAT people!!!!!!
-
fatpuss Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
Roberto I am impressed that you can run 10 miles a day after smoking 40 fags. You was casting aspertions at your better half’s colleague for being an adult with no brain! A bit like an adult who smokes 40 fags a day. Try being asthmatic for a day and you might change your mind about the fags.
-
fatpuss Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
Lazarus your answer was nothing but predictable defensive and evasive, a martyr to the minority, which though you may not think so, I applaud.
It was a genuine question on who you taught English to but your own mind twisted it into something else.

Willow Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
So as well as being a bit LARDY your also asthmatic then fattypuss.

Unfortunately Willow that is so true. Now if I had multiple personalities like some!! I could lie and say I was an Astronaut lighter than air or change my sex and become a woman.
-

Going for the sympathy vote then fatpuss
-
fatpuss Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
What by becoming a woman or for being a fat asthmatic! I’m easy.
-
Willow Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
If your overwieght and asthmatic your not helping yourself are you.
-
Roberto Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!
Fattypuss, How would I have no brain smoking 40 a day? I have cut down from 60 so the reason for me doing that must have come from impulses generated somewhere.
