has anybody noticed the caravan parked on the large grass area on the Ferriby slip road near the hotel there? Its been there nearly four weeks. The "owner" has a table and chairs outside, and has built a chicken run and two dog runs. There is a sign saying "scrap bought" by the side of the road.It also has a good view over the River Humber and there is no rent or council tax to pay..Just wondered though if I pitched my tent there and built a dog run and put up signs near the highway,if I would be allowed to "holiday" there for four weeks free of charge?

Yes you would be allowed. By law the council must give four weeks notice in order to move someone on. Reading between the lines of your post I think you are jealous that it is not you who are enjoying the view & relaxing.

It wont be such a pretty sight when they move on and leave their empty gas bottles, rubbish, dog pooh and human waste for someone else to clean up.

Well, in that respect they are no different to the average citizen of this country. With the possible exception of Italy the UK must be the dirtiest country in Western Europe.

I agree with theagitator on the UK being the dirtiest country in europe. Not only that but the population of the UK in general seems to have lost its morals. When I started to travel abroad I used to say that I was British with a sense of pride but now I hang my head in shame when I have to say where I am from thanks to the general population. My parents and Grandparents always brought me up to set an example when in foreign countries but that seems to be of little help when the rest of europe see so many lager louts and slaggs dogging all over their seaside resorts.

The last three posts have absolutly nothing to do with camping on public/private land. It shows a very short attention span as there have been only a total of 2 replies. Anyway, Wednesday is have a go at litter-louts day.

I see that the caravan has now gone from the roundabout. I hope that all the ‘nimbys’ who complained are proud of themselves & their narrow minded biggoty. Please can we have no more deviation from threads. Certain subjects on certain days only.

I think the point was why can a person just park their caravan on a grass verge and set up a scrap metal business. But agree that people do deviate from a set thread.
