Road repairs

Has anyone travelled down Beverley Road this week? They have re-surfaced the road with a layer of tarmac and heavy duty chippings, between Inglemire lane and the Dunswell roundabout, what a mess chippings are everywhere and the drains they have just cleared are getting full of them again.
Why can’t the council follow up with a road sweeper and take the loose chippings up before they cause anymore damage?

Before Humberside was formed, The East Riding Council did sweep up the surplus chippings, and tip them back into the lorry for reuse.

It does seem odd. These days everyone is looking at the drains and gullies, and blaming the council for the floods. SO what do they do? Fill the drains with gravel!

JGould" you quoted " everyone is blaming the council for it" thats because its the council’s responsibility to keep them serviced/clean, if not maybe you would like to point out who’s it is then..? i cannot state any other but just sfter the floods lastyear my brother in law works at a place where they KNEW it was the drains that played a MAJOR role in the flooding but it couldnt be made public!! the solution to having the drains filled up with gravel from these road workers is to have a company that can build som sort of a CAP that fits on top of them..the it can be cleaned & then removed..

Yes big P, it is the council’s reaponsibilty and so is the road repairs. that’s what I mean- they are under fire about the state of the drains, so why don’t they make more effort to stop the chippings going in them?

JGould" sorry i must of missread your reply (Sorry) yeah i am with you here i agree FULLY with you,it seams crazy letting all the drains fill back in dont it..? but then does anyone favour people like Carl minns thats TOTALY unapproachable & ignorant to members of the public..? he’s a public servant…try to contact him you’ll nearly always get "He’s out of office/busy/Away or in a meeting" through his secretary,so i suppose you could try to email him/them maybe then there’s some kinda follow up scheme they have to abide by..?

I remember as a child when the council put either new tarmack or fresh chippings down, they did use some sort of "Drain Cover".
If I remember rightly it was made from a simple piece of carpet and was made to over lap the drain an inch on all sides.
After the lorry dumped it’s chippings, it was lifted up, brushed off and moved to the next drain.

i have been down prestn road today and its horrendus the lose chippings will cause an accident . the max speed is 20 mph but i went a lot slower in fear of damaging mine and other cars . when i turned into preston road my car wheel span and i was in 1st gear just turning out of a junction. its a hazzard so i would avoid preston road like the plague until the council finnish the job properly
