Hard Hat Syndrome

Hard_hat

by Colombo 2 days ago
Last updated 3 minutes ago.

In recent days I have seen Yorkshire Water officials, wearing hard hats, looking down roadside sinks, workmen, with hard hats, unreeling electric wire from large cables in the back of a van on to smaller cables and traffic wardens checking and, sometimes, booking parked cars. You can hardly see an outside interview on TV, without the participants wearing brand new hard hats.

East Yorkshire companies are leading the way in the battle to become green and on September 22nd a new landmark made its secretive first presence felt on the low-rise inner city skyline of Kingston upon Hull.

Less than three miles from the city centre at the Oak Road site under the cover of darkness, and following Planning Permission granted in October 2006, chemical cracking and processing giant Croda Chemicals Europe erected the tower to a…

BBC To broadcast live on the Internet

Laptp

From next week, the bbc plans to show programmes live on the internet. will this affect the tv license ?. is it the first step toward people requiring a license for computers or even broadband access?. will the government use the fact that moble phone & computers are virtually universal as a means to impose a tax on ownership, just in case you watch programmes on them?

"Former cabinet member Andy Sloan has confirmed he is set to resign as a city councillor after landing a job 300 miles away from Hull. Councillor Sloan has been working as an economist for the civil service in Guernsey since August. Since then, he has still been drawing his basic councillor’s allowance, despite only attending a handful of council meetings. The basic allowance is £11,643 and is paid monthly. His last appearance was at a Riverside…

Most people have too much self respect to even think of being a councillor. Self-seekers, one & all.

Petty Pilfering.

by Chromosome23 1 day ago
Last updated about 1 hour ago.

Has anyone ever experienced petty pilfering at work? I don’t mean stealing from the company, but colleagues stealing from their fellow workers.

I’m begining to think that the decline of the trade union movement might have something to do with it. When I first started work, we had a strong trade union which helped to forge a common bond between the workers; one would never steal from those with whom one had a common cause. But now it seems as…

So you were right and I was wrong...Manchester isn't perfect after all...but I'm still right about the Big Screen!

If the stories and letters in the Mail together with some of the postings on this site were to be believed, no other local authority in this green and pleasant land can boast more examples of how to waste public money than Hull City Council. I have observed many an occasion when the question has been asked, why can’t Hull City Council be more like Manchester, Birmingham (or A.N other City/District/County) Council and be more responsible, especially…
