Hello everyone.
If any of you are interested in local history, Garden Village will be celebrating its centenary this July. The Garden Village Society are creating a centenary booklet, which will be around 25 pages and only £3.
The launch of the booklet will take place at Waterstone’s on Tuesday 1st July from 6pm. Members of the Society will be there, as well as some local Hull authors, such as Marjorie Shepherd (‘Out of the Chrysalis’ – WWII memoir and spiritual journey biography), and we’d love to have people help us celebrate.
There will be a display of photos charting Garden Village’s evolution, and the Society have put together a CD of photos which we’ll be showing on a TV in our Costa coffee shop. The Society will also have a stall, selling their Garden Village memorabilia.
I’d be very grateful if anyone has anything they would like to add to the display, such as photos, documents, stories etc (photocopies would be fine, it’s up to you), as I’m sure there are some gems out there.
If anyone would like to get in touch, please feel free to give me a ring on 01482 580234, or pop into the shop on Jameson Street, Hull city centre.
Many thanks and hope to see you at the launch!

Thank you Roberto. We’re all really looking forward to it, hoping to get Rex Booth from the Hull Daily Mail to come along and say a few words ‘Flashback’ style, fingers crossed!

Just a quick note. The Garden Village Centenary booklet will be £4.50, but it’s about twice as thick as planned, so it’s even better value for money and full of fascinating personal histories and nostalgic photos. Perfect for history lovers and those who know that It’s Never Dull in Hull!

Will the residents of Village Road and Laburnum Avenue be doing a synchronised display of double parking as part of the centenary celebration?
