    Yeah, it is a bit quiet. There is football on, but I don’t think Deano’s playing, so it can’t be that that has stopped people posting. I’ve been on here since just gone 2100….surely not!!

    I quite like baking. I made some pasties once. It’s quite surprising how far you can make a bit of mince, a carrot, an onion and a potato go!

    Need to get yourself a timer C23. I find baking theraputic, apple pies,blueberry tarts,rhubarb pie,jam,lemon curd and coconut tarts, steak and kidney pudds and sausage rolls tonight won’t last long with my lot, and it saves money too.Haven’t quite mastered the bread though. I love corned beef pasties with ruff pastry. Side tracked agen, England won then? makes a change.

    My wife taught me how to do that pastry that you keep folding over so that it goes flaky. That turned out okay. I’ve made bread before, and that turned out quite good, but I’m never sure how much salt to put in. Too little and it tastes rubbish, too much and you need a pint of water after eating a single slice.

    I made the best bread ever back when I was at school why had to make healthy bread, but me being me I decided to mix loads of different flour and created a tasty grey looking loaf.

    I think we should start a recipe thread!

    I remember a recipe by Antonio Carlucci (sp?) that involved cabbage, bread, cheese and stock. My wife made it a couple of years ago, but we can’t remember the exact process. I recall that it was very nice though. Don’t suppose anyone has heard of it? I think it was a sort of northern Italian / southern Swiss dish.

    C23 You need about a quarter of tea spoon per pound (flat that is)and if you want a crusty loaf, brush the top with a saline solution. My mother-in-law taught me how to make short crust pastry thirty odd years ago, before that it was grey, tough and stretchy.Nice to know that you get your hand in with the baking.

    JN the best stuff is usually a throw together.

    It’s more of a fishing expedition. I want recipes!!!! I don’t really have any of my own, unless you count my Yorkshire Pudding with added roast vegetables special of course. But that’s not so much of a recipe, more like adding enormous quantities of roast veg to a big Yorkshire pudding!

    Trixie; no need for apologies. I’m just amazed at the number of replies. I tend to follow my dad’s advice if i have to cook: ‘If in doubt, fry it’. He was an ex-sergeant major and his fried corned beef sandwiches were delicious.

    Re food n unorthodox skull-cookery. We brothers were all on strike (maybe the most successful in history, even the bosses approved of our aims and the result. How mad was that?). Anyway, Younger bro’ enters mother’s kitchen to find eldest cooking, in a cauldron, the following…One large tin o’ Vegetable soup, one medium tin o’ Spam all chopped up, a couple of ounces o’ Spaghetti n anything else that could be found. Looking at the pink gloppy concoction, youngest protests to the elder `You can’t give that t’ poor ol’ dog, he’ll be sick!’ Eldest replied This is for me, t’ wife n kids!’

    Funnily enough, I always jinx the result if I watch a match. The most recent was the Final between Man United and Chelsea. My son-in-law is a Chelsea fan, so I made certain, for his sake, not to watch any of the match. My wife insisted in switching to the match, saying "Well it will be over by now". She switched over just in time to see John Terry slip as he took the penalty that should have won the match for Chelsea. The rest,as they say, is history.

    The EU will pass whatever laws are necessary, to make whatever they want, legal.

    Come the revolution. I have capitalist tendencies, apparently, and, some say, a warped sense of humour.

    I building to storming into my surgery tomorrow after they, yet again, knackered up my prescription. There’s a time for talk and a time for beligerence! At least you can use a pretext of having someone in the house so you don’t drink alone! My mum always told me never to drink alone, but I never understood why?

    No, I don’t want to go into too much detail, but it’s Wolsley Medical Centre; the cursed bane of my rueful life!

    I sort of curtailed my drinking habits after a night when I consumed 1 bottle of red, then 1 bottle of white, then half a bottle of 10 year old Ouzo.
