    Tigers are back.

4-1..!!! but the first few minutes looked bleak when the other side scored….

    Congratulations to City.

Enjoy your day out at Wembley, it might be the last game you win for a long, long time!

I HATE FOOTBALL, but I watched this match and quite frankly they were fantastic to watch.

Well Done Tigers, keep it going one more match and your there!!!!!

Hi Chromosome23, I wonder myself whether City will win much in the Premier League and you are probably right about it being a long time till they win another match, but we still can’t take away from them the fantastic achievement over the last few seasons, culminating in a shot at the PL. I am open to being pleasantly surprised. Mind you even if they get relegated after their first season, the cash injection must be pretty attractive. Let’s just hope thay can show those West Country yokels how to play at Wembley.

  6. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Fair enough Alan, but I can’t help thinking that expectations have been unrealistically raised. I fully expect City to beat Bristol, but what is the cost? They will then be playing in a league which is dominated by three or four clubs, with avoiding relegation as the only success that they can realistically achieve.

  7. JohnnyNoah Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Well two teams who have already made it into the prem this season will defiantly be beatable and I think a few others will be to. I just hope City can get a good forward to replace Campbell or get him back.

  8. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

So in effect, City will be playing in a league which comprises what….Stoke, WBA, Fulham and perhaps Sunderland? Thank God for Super League. At least it’s competitive.

  9. alanmackinnon Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Yeah C23 I fully agree with you that expectations have been raised unrealistically high, but what was the alternative…. to play a lesser game than they were capable of just in case they ended up in a league which they couldn’t hack? My biggest fear for City is that if they start doing badly in the PL that whole droves of fans will start to desert them….God forbid.

  10. EdddGeee Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

"Thank God for Super League. At least it’s competitive." HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!,etc

well done the tigers – what a great victory. 1 more win and hull finally becomes a major sporting city.

Lets put a stop to promotions altogether then. No point is there.

Derby did so dreadfully because they didn’t spend enough money on players. Whatever cash city will get if they get promoted would need to be spent on players. Thats the only way they could survive. Buts its not impossible. Of course its difficult but thats why its the best league in the world.

  12. hull-pony Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Hopefully Hull can now end the unenviable record of largest city in Europe never to have a top flight football team!

  13. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Quote Robbo "Derby did so dreadfully because they didn’t spend enough money on players"

So that’s the ambition then? To do better than Derby? I hereby retract my statement that ‘expectations are unrealistically raised’.

better once than never. let’s hope the bus drivers for hfc & hkr know the way to featherstone.

  16. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

    Good little comunity club Featherstone.

Any truth in the rumour that City are looking to be sponsored by Kleenex? They’ll need the tissues to dry all of the tears after getting thrashed by Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton etc etc.

  17. EdddGeee Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

..etc, yawn. at least wait ‘til they get there before heaping negativity on them.

  18. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

    Realistic.

  19. EdddGeee Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

obviously, assuming that the tigers can overcome a skilful and fleet-footed bristol side at wembley, then games against major clubs which are virtually international teams [2 of which are the contesting the champions’ league final] will reveal a gulf in class. but at least they will be playing against them having earnt the opportunity through hard work. staying up is all they can hope for. how would hkr/hfc fare playing against the australian national team every week, which is about the equivalent of city’s task should they go up?

  20. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

They’d get thrashed, week in and week out. But then they don’t play against the Australian national team.

I just wonder howw many City supporters will look back to the excitement and competitiveness of this season, this time next year. How many times has the leadership changed hands in the Championship this season? How many times has it changed hands in the Premiership? Face it, the Premiership is a dull and unexciting competition, which only stays in its pre-eminent position in the national consciousness because of the acres of newsprint and hours of TV coverage. In effect, it’s three leagues rolled into one. The top four, half a dozen or so in the middle and then the relegation contenders.

  21. swampduck Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

It doesn’t matter if they only manage one season. The revenue will help the team and promote the city, not forgetting the 50 million squiddlys!

  22. Robbo Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

"So that’s the ambition then? To do better than Derby? I hereby retract my statement that ‘expectations are unrealistically raised’."

No the ambition is to stay up. Doesn’t matter if they do it on goal difference on the last day of the season as long as they do it.

Then the next year they try to finish a little higher and so on and so forth.

Thats what every club has to do when entering the premier league.

Portsmouth were promoted 5 years ago. They finished 8th this season and are in the FA Cup final (and a victory there will get them into Europe)

You’re not being realistic. Just negative.

  23. EdddGeee Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

"They’d get thrashed, week in and week out. But then they don’t play against the Australian national team." – no, but that is the level of the challenge facing city if/ when they go up. man utd could probably beat most international teams. as robbo says, consolidation will be the order of the day. the games against the big 4 teams can probably be written off as defeats but if they can carry on the momentum that they have created the lesser teams hold no fears. have leeds won the superleague yet?

  24. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Not yet, but they’d be further in front had they not lost at lowly Castleford.

A scenario that is unlikely to be repeated when Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United visit the KC.

  25. EdddGeee Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

exactly as i said earlier,so your point is…?

  26. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

That Super League is more competitive than the Premiership.

  27. EdddGeee Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

i see that in the last 10 years, the superleague has been won by either wigan, bradford, leeds or st. helens.

  28. EdddGeee Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

..and that currently 3 out of the top 4 places are held by…er leeds, bradford and st. helens!.

  29. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

    Four clubs out of twelve.

The Premiership is regularly won by Arsenal, Man Utd or Chelsea. How many clubs are in the Premiership?

  30. EdddGeee Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

    about 19 i think. why?

  31. Robbo Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Look C23, the whole point of getting to the PL from a players point of view is to be in the best league in the world against some of the best players in the world. Obviously there will be a small number of teams better than everyone else – thats not just exclusive to English football. Look at German, Spanish, Scottish, Portugese, Dutch etc… leagues.

It doesn’t matter that City will not challange for the title. It matters that they are playing against the best footballers in the world and we get to watch how they do.

If they dont get relegated then they have done well. And then build from there.

I dont see what your point is. They shouldn’t play because they aren’t going to win it?

  32. EdddGeee Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

i think the point robbo,is that rugby league will be reduced to even more of a sideshow and shown to be the 1950’s throwback that it is. it’s only still viable because they sold their souls to the australians – why is the challenge cup final held at the end of august? because the entire season is geared up for tv coverage during the australian winter, so they can watch their boys earning some easy dollars on tv at the barbie. strewth!

Killjoy Ed.We take our grandkids to some City matches and Hull FC matches. They enjoy the build up and the atmosphere. They shout, clap and enjoy themselves even if our team lost.Hull and East Riding kids deserve the enjoyment of seeing man U and Liverpool at the KC.They can see their heroes at the KC,and many may not be Hull City players but Man U stars and they can get the chance to see them in Hull.If City get beaten, many kids from Hull and East Riding kids will have had a great day out.Let them enjoy it whilst they can.Never knock childrens joy.We may end up bottom, but that does not matter for a kids once in a lifetime experience

I dont usually C23 your input is generally a balanced view, being a city passholder this one raised my hackles a little. Anyway, whats this I heard on the radio this morning about raising the profile of RL and making it Quote, a Class A sport. Whats all that about? and does beg the question what is it now.

EdddGeee Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

yes i saw a report on look north this morning. what it is, is that sport england who dish out lottery money to worthy causes and fund the pursuit of sporting excellence have categorised soccer & rugby union, for example, as class A sports. rugby league has been classified as a class B sport. needless to say, a handful of tv hungry mp’s from around the m62 have complained. i nearly choked on my rye flakes i was laughing so much!!. here’s list B in full -

    1: bowls

    2: log-rolling

    3: off-ground tig

    4: hide & seek

    5: rugby league.

  40. Robbo Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Last post on this subject, from me at least.

I quite like football, just as I like RL. All I was trying to say was that the competitiveness of the Premiership is non-existent. Certainly in terms of actually winning something.

Certainly not trying to rain on your bonfires lads, I was just trying to point out amidst all of the euphoria that all of you passholders will look back on this season as a much more exciting time than you’ll have next year.

Such a shame that it had to end in a denigration of RL, a minor sport in comparison to Association Football admittedly, but one with a history and heritage just as rich as that of soccer.

Have fun when you’re all chanting "Sack the board" in May 2009.

cheer up chromo! don’t rl fans have a sense of humour? [they must have!]. the competition in superleague is intense, as 8 of them try to avoid getting relegated to batley-land and the other 4 take it in turn to be champions. have fun on your charabanc trip to featherstone next australian winter!

  49. JohnnyNoah Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

“as 8 of them try to avoid getting relegated to batley-land”??? No relegation. And it’s far more competitive than the same four teams battling at the top. The Dragons are second, thats like City being second in the prem.

no relegation? how is that competetive? and why is there a french team playing?

  51. BobM Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

  54. EdddGeee Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

  55. JohnnyNoah Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

  62. Chromosome23 Submitted 2 months ago Unsuitable Content? Report it!

Thanks Ed, but I fully understood your reply to John. My reply was in order to point out the folly of calling the Premiership the ‘English’ Premiership, when a huge number of players in the teams are actually not english at all, and are simply drafted in by the promise of big bucks. In fact, why mess about playing the actual games at all? The entire league could be decided on the amount of cash each club has….oh, wait, it already is.

The phrase you are looking for is ‘tongue in cheek’.

Rotate players so they can last longer. It means getting more players in the squads but as its such a good sport (cough) then that should be no problem. There should be loads of youngsters queing up for the chance.

“Rotate players so they can last longer. It means getting more players in the squads but as its such a good sport (cough) then that should be no problem. There should be loads of youngsters queing up for the chance.” That’s impossible the clubs would have to double what they pay on wages and play their best players less even though the season is longer so they would want more. Whom the RU would then snap up, they are always after anyone who can actually pass the ball. Lots of players would be unhappy with missing the big games and a lot like now would play with injuries. Hull FC has had so many injuries that they could do with a full second squad and that’s with the season only half done.
