In the HDM Mr Smallwood says that building houses is more important than the endangered Great Crested Newt. Obviously he is one dinasoar that survived. Children are taught these days to save and protect endangered species, not wipe them of the face of the earth. He should set an example to the children of Preston Road and encourage them to protect any creature wether endangered or not.

wasn’t it preston road where an unfortunate deer got trapped in a fence and then had its legs sawn off, while still alive of course, by some of the locals?

Yes.

How many locals was it then Jolyon Spindrift that did this to the poor deer and how old were they? I had not heard about this happening, when was it and did they get prosecuted, I hope so.

from memory, i believe that at least a quartet of indigents chased the animal down on moped-style bikes, then when it got entangled in a fence trying to escape they hacked its legs off. as usual, no one saw, heard, knew or said anything so presumably they were not prosecuted. can’t remember when exactly, but certainly within last 2-4 years. was in the paper, and that.

Jolyon-Spindrift can you understand then what I was trying to say. This chap is Chair of the Preston Road Residents Association and he is proposing that they should ignor the law of a protected species. In his words the newts are irritating and holding up progress of the demolition of old housing stock so that an Academy School for up-to sixteen hundred pupils can be built not new houses.
There are also deer around these houses that come and go on the allotments. The allotments are also earmarked for this Acadamy I wonder if anyone has given a thought to them and the family of foxes.
Preston Road a Place where everyone would want to live! thats their vision, as long as you are not an endangered species, deer or fox. The only animals allowed are the ones that are cruel to deers.

Cruel and nasty though the deer episode was, I don’t see what that has to do with the inhabitants of Preston Road or the case of the great crested newts.

C23, I respect your opinion and would like to say the Great Crested Newt and the Deer are inhabitants of Preston Road and if we dont respect our surroundings and the creatures that live there in, how can we educate the future generations to respect what they have.
I think the people on Preston Road are like anywhere else in Hull fantastic friendly people, they also like everywhere else have their share of low-lifes that like hurting animals.

Quite right Julesx2. We don’t even know if the deer killers came from Preston Road.

Your right C23 especially if they were on mopeds as J Spindrift says. They are the sort of scum that we need to eradicate from our neighbourhoods and not our wildlife that is so rare in a large populated housing area.

estate-dwellers tend to remain in their patch for fear of being attacked by the residents of other estates should they wander into the wrong territory. it’s a reasonable assumption that the deer-hackers came from the immediate locale.

Newt but trouble

So therefore, in the context of the thread, is it also a reasonable assumption to assume that everyone on the Preston Road Estate is cruel to animals?

Quote Jolyon "estate-dwellers tend to remain in their patch for fear of being attacked by the residents of other estates should they wander into the wrong territory. "
You don’t really believe this do you?

"So therefore, in the context of the thread, is it also a reasonable assumption to assume that everyone on the Preston Road Estate is cruel to animals?" – no.
"Quote Jolyon "estate-dwellers tend to remain in their patch for fear of being attacked by the residents of other estates should they wander into the wrong territory. "
"You don’t really believe this do you?" – there is a rivalry between gangs of morons who like to pretend that they are living in south central los angeles. unfortunately, this can lead to people being killed, such as the person who was murdered on ings road estate in revenge for some indescretion committed on someone else’s "patch".

So what did the poor newts do! stray onto this gentlemans patch. Is that why he wants them squashed and chopped up. There is no such thing as a free country is there, not when people are afraid to roam from their doorstep or stick up for defencless animals.

Thank goodness for people like Peter Nottage Regional Director for Yorkshire, Humber and Natural England today in HDM The Peoples Voice. For being the voice and the care of our local wildlife.

Red-Dragon on Hedgehogs "thanks to climate change and reduced habitats, thanks to builders of the ever increasing housing estates popping up the numbers of these harmless little chaps are decreasing rapidly. Once considered part of the furniture in the UK, Hedgehogs are seriously threatened. This is what is happening to a lot of our wildlife including the Warty Newt.
