Fabulous fashions, fantastic bargains and vital fundraising for an East Yorkshire charity have come together under one roof. Dove House Hospice opened a new store in Hull’s Prospect Street yesterday – its first shop in the city centre for more than eight years. Shoppers surged through the doors of the shop, the charity’s 27th, as soon as it opened. Marisa Coleman, acting head of fundraising at Dove House, described the shop’s location as “absolutely perfect”. She said: “It is central to the main shopping area, there are other charity shops nearby and a bus stop outside, so it is perfect. “Our shops provide a vital source of income for our charity. Without their much-needed revenue, we would struggle to continue to provide round-the-clock specialist palliative care for people who need it most. “We aim to provide shoppers with the latest fashions, but at greatly reduced prices.” Eileen Goffin, chairwoman of the charity’s board of trustees, said: “Some people might say this is the wrong time to open a shop, particularly in the city centre, but I think it is a great time to be opening up.” Dove House is now looking for people to join its army of volunteers to help on the shop floors and sort donations. Lindsay Mason, volunteer services manager for the charity, said: “We really need volunteers to work for us, even if it’s just for a couple of hours a week or even a fortnight.” If you would like to volunteer to work in one of the shops, call the hospice on (01482) 784343.
