Songwriting and DJing courses for children

Children and young people in the Pocklington and Driffield areas are invited to take part in musical workshops to hone their skills as songwriters and DJs. Lyric workshops are available to all children and yojng peoplea ged between eight and 12 years of age. The songwriting course allows young people to get involved in every aspect of creating songs from writing and performing the lyrics, to creating the backing track, combining the two using post-production methods and producing a finished CD of your work. The songwriting course takes place at the youth centre, New Street, Pocklington. Young people can learn to DJ, using both the latest in CD DJ technology and traditional turntables. They will explore the concepts of beat mixing, scratching and using the microphone (MC techniques) and use laptops to run Acid Pro software. The DJing course takes place at the Community Centre, Mill Street, Driffield. Both courses run on Saturday 27 September; 4, 11, 18 October and 1, 8, 15, 22 November. Each workshop runs between 10am-12noon. No previous experience is necessary. Lyric music workshops organised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council arts development team.
