The annual Driffield Steam and Vintage Rally returns to Driffield Showground next weekend. The East Riding Engine Club, which organises the event, is hoping to repeat the success of last year’s show, which was the best attended in the history of the two-day rally.

Exhibits are coming from across the UK and overseas.

One exhibit will travel to the rally from Holland, via the North Sea ferry.

There will be more than 150 tractors of all sizes and ages, as well as the usual wide selection of attractions and exhibits, ranging from an old-time fair to blow lamps.

A first for the show will be the appearance of a tracked miniature steam engine pulling two trailers.

They are scale replicas of an outfit used in America to open up the Yukon.

The highlight for many will be the Saturday night road run.

With the co-operation of the East Riding and Driffield town councils, the town centre’s roads will be closed for part of the evening.

This will allow many of the exhibits to parade into the town and park up, allowing people to view the engines.

As in previous years, there will be a street collection in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Last year, this collection raised more than £1,000 and, together with other local charities, Yorkshire Cancer Research will also share in the proceeds of the rally.

The gates at the showground will be open from 10am on both days.

Admission charges are £7 for adults, with accompanied children free.

Organisers say the rally will be an event for all the family to enjoy.
