Dsc00415 Opening

What a day yesterday.."fantastic" Thank you so much for all those people involved in creating such an interesting and pleasent day. A special thank you must go to all those people who attended the Garden Village Centenary celebration Summer Fete and made the event the huge success that it was. The favourable comments from residents and members of the public made all the hard work by members of the Garden Village Celebration Steering Group, the actors and most of all the "Garden Village Children" all worth while.

What an absolutely fabulous day!! The crowd for the re-enactment of the opening ceremony were larger than the larger than the original, and the weather was great. It was very gratifying to have the widow of Sir James Reckitt’s grandson, Mrs Mary Reckitt, to unveil the Centenary Plague in the presence of two great-nieces of Thomas Ferens. I think they were all impressed with what had been done to honour their ancestors. Long live Garden Village and the memory of it’s founder, Sir James Reckitt.
