The first picture was taken shortly after the Carnegie Library first opened and the second between its short time as Surestart’s offices and before the Carnegie Heritage Action Team were allowed to move in.

I’ve never been in it but I’ve always admired its design. When I worked at Lonsdale Community Centre it was announced that it would close as a library and a new one would be opened in the planned "Super Stadium". I was against that as I thought the building might become derelict. I’m pleased to see that it has got a new lease of life. I’m very interested in local history so I’ll be going along to check it out. Here’s an old view of West Park.
