Workers from Npower in Hull have spent two days helping staff and students at Hessle High School give the lower school courtyard a makeover. Fourteen volunteers at the Boothferry Road school sanded and painted benches, repainted walls, weeded and dug flower-beds. Lee Smith, team manager at Npower Business, said: “The company has an extensive volunteering programme and staff are encouraged to give something back to their local communities. “At the end of the work, we all felt we had made a difference to Hessle High’s environment.” Bev Carter, a co-ordinator at the school, thanked the team for its efforts. She said: “It’s a real bonus to have support from companies like Npower.” Thanks to the volunteers, the school will now be running an after-school gardening club for students, starting in September.
