I tried to add this picture to my other post about the Bridlington Eye, but couldn’t.
This is a picture of the view I got as I went over the top of the Bridlington Eye. I was holding on tightly as it was very windy.

I didn’t know it was even working. There was plenty of publicity when it was shut down about 6 months ago so why not when it reopened? I’ll have to give it a go next time I’m in Brid

from the Hull Daily Mail/East Riding Mail on Thursday, October 9
The future of Bridlington’s big wheel has been cast into doubt following a poor summer. Michael Harrison, of Harrison Leisure, which operates the Bridlington Eye, said a slow tourist season had hit seafront attractions. He said a meeting was being held in a couple of weeks with resort businesses to discuss the disappointing summer. He said: “I cannot comment on the future of the Eye at the moment, but it is open at present. “This summer hasn’t produced very good weather for any seaside business. “We are undecided as to what plans we are making about any of the equipment on the seafront. “There will be a meeting in the next couple of weeks with all operators once half term is out of the way.” Martyn Coltman, of Bridlington’s urban renaissance partnership, said he believed the contract for the £1m attraction could be up for renewal. He said: “I believe a contract has only been signed until October. “The Eye is a tremendous asset to the town and has become a landmark on the coast. It has been an icon for change. “I understand it needs to be viable and perhaps it should close for the winter months, but it would be a shame if we lost it. “It has been a popular attraction and has been an identification of renaissance in the town along with the Spa. “The Harrison family have invested a lot in the town.” President of the Bridlington Hotel and Guesthouse Association Glenn Holmes said losing the ride would be a major blow. He said: “If the Eye was removed it would be a big loss. “It stands out in the town and has become iconic.” Mr Holmes also said the poor summer weather had not affected hotel and guesthouse trade. He said: “We have actually had a very good season. “The weather was slow to get going, but once the season got under way we did very well. “The credit crunch hasn’t really kicked in yet and it will be next summer before we feel the pinch.” The Eye, based at Bayside Fun Park, was installed in June last year but was closed for several months last October after finance company Haydock Finance took away parts of the control panel. The action was taken after an apparent dispute with previous owners Yorkshire Carousel Ltd, which leased the wheel to Mr Harrison. But a deal was eventually struck with the finance company, which allowed it to reopen in March.
