Welton and Melton Gardens Festival

Sunday, June 29th 2008 (Gardens open between 11.30am and 4.30pm)

There will be over 20 gardens open in these two adjacent villages. For £3 per adult (accompanied children free) you may purchase a ticket from WELTON MEMORIAL HALL, WELTON or 35, MELTON OLD ROAD, MELTON. This will include a description of the gardens and a map of locations.

Birds to blame for village power cuts

Birds have been blamed for causing a power cut that hit more than 1,400 properties in the village, near Brough. According to energy company CE Electric, power went off at about 5am yesterday and all affected properties had supply restored by 12.30pm. Welton, Melton and Waudby Memorial Club has presented a cheque to Anita Kay from the NSPCC. The cheque was for £1,000, raised during the club’s fundraising efforts from the previous year. Ms Kay said: "This is a wonderful contribution from Welton Club. "It is much appreciated and the club members should be very proud of their efforts."
