The astonishingly luxuriant environment of the Amazon watershed in Peru is home to a groups of 4500 families working in cooperatives to produce organic Fairtrade coffee. They live on the edges of the Amazon in a zone of global biological importance. The coffee growers village cooperatives have united to form CECOVASA Federation based in the coffee town of Putina Punco. As a Federation of cooperatives of small-holder, family-owned farms, CECOVASA qualified for Fairtrade certification. The Fairtrade relationship has brought the isolated families technical expertise and education, as well as a fair price and cash premiums for community development projects in return for growing in a sustainable way.
