When I worked at Harwell, after visiting home, I would sometimes return via Birmingham. This involved changing stations from New Street to Snow Hill.
This is a shot I once took at Snow Hill, of a GWR pannier tank, 4648, on a transfer freight turn. 7th June 1960.
I never printed it, because I thought their were some ‘holes’ in the negative. It was only when I scanned the negative, and enlarged it, that I discovered the ‘holes’ were pigeons on the platform.

Hi Colombo what do you think of the new A1 60163 Tornado just built at Darlington. I’ve been on the website WWW.A1STEAM.COM and found it very interesting. They are appealing for a steam heating hose -ock to keep costs down, you havn’t got one have you? I am sure you can get what I mean as the correct term is deemed offensive. This site is becoming pathetic. Regards BobM.

If they had waited until Sunday, it would have been 40 years since the end of steam.
I saw an A1 going past Ideal Standard for scrapping at Drapers. What a pity he didn’t save that one.
