Any members of the school’s Railway Society out there ?
Does any one know what happened to the York and Ainsty’s nameplate ?
I seem to remember we each put 3p into a collection to buy it.
I think the one on the wall of the Railway Museum at York is the one from the other side.

Yes, I’m out here, and I’m even on the picture. I remember very little about the club (little wonder after 50 Years). I believe I helped to ‘guard’ a model railway layout we’d put on display at The Majestic Cinema just before Christmas maybe 1957. The manager allowed us to watch an Elvis film for free!!
There are lots of things in my shed, but the Y & A plate isn’t one of them.

Here’s a Railway Society shot. Trainers and baseball caps were not even dreamt of! Short pants and long macs never did us any harm. Ken. you might like a look at this .. http://www.flickr.com/photos/80652380@N00/338732789/
Oops, that link doesn’t actually work. You’ll have to copy and paste.

Colombo – I’m pleased to have fulfilled your needs, although I didn’t know where it was taken. I don’t know that I dare admit it on this site, but it could well have been a scan from a well known local publication beginning with F.
Ken – I’m sure you’re right – B31 /33? However, it was a candid shot I couldn’t let go. It was my Cartier Bresson ‘Decisive Moment’ And you’re right, I am one of the crowd who attended our 50th anniversary of the school’s opening! Good to be in touch again Ken.

Thanks ennywun. I think I know where it went now. It’s one of two negatives that I have lost.

Good to be reminded of that 50th. anniversary reunion , so crowded at one point I thought the door of the telephone box would give way under the pressure!
Going back t the R/Society I do remember the very impressive exhibition they staged at the school during our first year. Model layouts of varios gauges filled the hall and I think there was a steam model somewhere [Health & Safety would frown on that these days] My Dad was so caught up with it he funded a new set of points for my [our!] Triang layout the following weekend.
Triang v. Hornby? Any opinions?

Mine was a Triang Ken, permanently attached to a board with folding legs in the ‘front room’ of our terraced house. Dad fixed up an ex WD rotary converter to convert 240v AC to 6v(?) DC to run it. It made a heck of a racket & interfered with the 9" GEC TV.
I eventually sold the whole setup for I think £10, and bought an electric guitar.

Always thought Hornby a bit unreal because their tracks had 3 rails although the locos were beautifully detailed and they did have a turntable and a Royal Mail set that worked.
The big plus point Triang had for me though was the American range they produced, first saw it running in Jordans when they used to have a huge model layout every Christmas.
Great place Jordans, always remember the smell of oil as you walked in and the wall to wall motorbikes on display.

Here’s one that has been published before, showing a party of RHS Railway Society members adorning an A7, during a visit to Springhead.
