Hull’s flood barrier may not be the most aesthetically appealing in the world but it certainly is an important one, particularly in light of recent flooding in the area. It is surprising however how a makeover from mother nature with her infinite palette of light and collection of ever-changing skies can transform our view of things, giving them a drama and beauty all of their own. Here’s a couple of shots taken of Victoria Pier after the sun had dipped below the horizon. The skies on these occasions were wonderful I thought one of these looked a bit like ‘war of the worlds’! I didn’t know whether to take photographs or run for cover… The high-tide often sees a ‘lull’ before it turns resulting in a relatively calm (depending on the wind) river and this all helps with the reflections of sky. I took this photo of the Stadium after heavy rain, just before sunset. I was crossing over from Anlaby road to Argyle Street. The rain eased and the sun came out in the last few minutes before sunset illuminating the wet path.
