The BBC need your help for - did you lose a relative in WW1

11th November this year marks the 90th Anniversary of the end of the First World War.
As part of the BBC TV coverage of events on the day, we are looking for descendants of employees of Reckitts Factory who lived in the Garden Village but who died during this War.

one of the sites you can visit is the Clubhouse Elm Avenue, Garden Village. During the weekend of 13th and 14th September the building will open its doors to the public for the first time as part of the annual Open Week event. On July 27th the Garden Village Summer fete will bre taking place on The Oval. As weel as the Summer fete, and because the Garden Village is 100 years old this year, a number of events have been planned to celebrate this historical event. A re-enactment of the original opening ceremony will take place, followed by a series of historical walks around the village when stories about life in the village over the last 100 years will be acted out…

Happy Birthday Garden Village

Garden Village is 100 years old today. The opening ceremony took place on Wednesday 1st July 1908 in ideal weather. On the 27th July 2008 there will be the unveiling of a plaque followed by the re-enactment of the opening ceremony and then a series of historical walks around the village, where walkers will be told stories and meet characters from the last 100 years of the village. In 33 days time this plaque will be unveiled to celebrate the 100 years of Garden village. The plaque will be attached to a large piece of Granite, and this will be placed at the junction of Village Road and Holderness Road.
